Playoff Preview Round 1
OK so we are just 24 hours away from kicking off our 2015 Playoffs and all 5 teams are tied for 1st.
Opening match, 9:15, Friday night is our 2nd seed Boston vs the 5th seed Habs. Bruins swept the season series against the Habs with 5 straight wins and out scoring the Habs 41 – 15. Bruins finished the season 14-6-0 and enter the playoffs on a 2 game losing streak. Bruins led the league with 107 goals and led the league with 110 penalty minutes. Bruins were tops in the league in Power play success, 2nd best in penalty kills and best in the league in +/- even strength. Habs finished with a 2-17-1 record and enter the playoffs on an 11 game losing streak. Habs were 2nd best in power plays and 3rd in penalty kills. Montreal had the best +/- in special teams and worst +/- on even strength. Habs had the least amount of goals for with 72 and the highest goals against at 125. Habs and Bruins were tied with best attendance this season at 87%. So this one looks pretty one sided but depending on attendance and maybe a hot goalie anything can happen. Las Vegas has the Bruins favourite in this one by at least 4 goals.
Late match, 10:30, will showcase the 3rd place Flyers vs the 4th seed Islanders. Both squads have season ending injuries to key players and have had the lowest attendance in the league. Flyers win the season series against the Islanders with 3 wins 1 loss and 1 tie. Flyers enter the playoffs with the longest win streak of 3 and Islanders won their last game of the season as they upset the Bruins. Flyers out score the Islanders 23 – 14 in their 5 games. Flyers had the 3rd best power play and tops in the league in Penalty kills. Islanders finished last in both categories. Should be a good game with an edge going out to the Flyers for this one.
Should be exciting good luck to all teams and enjoy your last day of being tied for 1st.
