Playoffs Week 1 Recap
Our Playoffs kicked off last Friday and no March Madness surprises or last minute mid court game winning shots either.
Early game between #2 Flyers and #5 Habs. Opening period was scoreless as both Barry and Scottie stood tall rejecting all shooters. A late Habs penalty set up Flyers first goal with 28 ticks left on the clock. The 2nd period saw the Flyers flex their muscles and out score the Habs 5 to 1 for a 6-1 lead after 2. The final frame went scoreless as the Flyers opened their playoffs with a impressive 6-1 victory. Flyers got 2 hat tricks in this one, Diluzio and Mihalic who scored a natural hat trick in the 2nd period as his teammates all gave him a face wash at the bench. Peacock got the lone Montreal goal, no face wash for Joe. Flyers award Mihalic with Player of the Game and Habs honor Barry Ervin for his performance. Barry celebrated his 59th birthday over the weekend and told his boys an interesting story about his dogs and the bathroom and I think peanut butter was involved. Habs went 0-4 on the PP and Flyers went 1-3.
Late game featured the red hot #3 Oilers and the #4 Bruins team a bit short handed. Both teams score once in the first period. Oilers out score the Bruins 2-1 in the 2nd for a 3-2 lead after 2. An early power play goal in the 3rd made it 4-2 and a final Oiler goal made this a 5-2 Oiler win to kick off their playoffs. Oilers got goals from Freeman, Nelson, Ree with the game winner, Rundle and Kelly with a beauty. Bruins got goals from Annan and Wright. One of Boston goals was scored from center ice as it hit an Oiler defenseman and was lost in the lights and fell in behind Rispoli, the crowd went crazy!!. Oilers went 1-2 on the PP and Bruins were 0-0. Players of the Game went to Oilers Frank Rispoli and Bruins Joe Cosentino.
