Week 1 Playoffs Recap
Boys,
Our new season has begun and our 1st round of playoff games are in the books.
Early game between the #2 seed Polocks and the #5 seed Swedes. Poland scored the lone 2 goals in the opening period. The same results in the 2nd as Poland took a 4-0 lead into the final frame. And deja vu in the final period as Poland flexed their muscles sending out a clear message they are here to compete for the Gold with a resounding 6-0 victory. Sweden went 0-1 on the PP and Poland was 0-2. Poland got all single goals from Leo Brideau, Brian Burke, Eric ‘Mr. April’ Fletcher, John Annan, Kevin Nicholson and Joe ‘best looking old-timer’ Peacock. Poland gave their Player of the Game award to their backstop Art Senkowski with the shut out. Sweden gave their POG to Steve Ferrin. Does he look happy here?
Sweden backstop Bobby Ide tried to motivate his teammates before the game with a Lance Orr tactic from way back as he was sending a message to all Polish shooters but it may have back fired a bit based on the results.
Late game between the #4 seed USA and the #3 seed Finland was a big one and a good one too. Feisty and entertaining. Finland scored the lone goal in the 1st period in a tight checking affair. Finland got an early 2nd period goal and then managed to hold off an American on slaught for the brunt of the 2nd period as McCallum shut them out. Finland got a goal with less than 20 ticks left on the clock taking a 3-0 lead into the final frame. American’s continued to press in the 3rd scoring twice but the Fin’s scored late and took their opening match victory 4-2. USA went 0-0 on the PP and Finland was 1-1. USA got goals from Paul ‘Pork Chop’ Barbosa and Moe Connell. Finland got 2 goals from both Brian ‘Spinner’ Spence and rookie Steve MacDougall. Players of the Game went to USA #7 Paul Barbosa and to Finland #3 Brian Spence.
