Week 11 Recap (December 1 games)
EARLY GAME – #1 IRELAND v #3 SLOVENIA
The early game featured #1 IRELAND against a surging #3 SLOVENIA. Ireland came out strong in the first period but Slovenia’s new puckstopper Tony Cioffi, was solid in net allowing his team to go up 2-0 on goals from big man George Letsos and Paul Riopelle. Peter Freeman sniped a beauty to end the first period 2-1 for the Slovenians.
Ireland sniper Chris Deware knotted the game at 2 midway through the second period but the black team stormed ahead 4-2 on goals from Dwayne Tygeson and another off the heavy shot of Riopelle.
It was all Slovenia in the third with 2 goals from rookie Scott Wilson and another from the smooth skating Tygeson, with only a single for the Irish off the lumber of D-man Sal Guerra. Ireland goalie Stewart Henderson didn’t get much help from his teammates on this one which ended as a 7-3 stomping for Slovenia who move to a point out of 2nd place.
Slovenia’s PLAYER OF THE GAME goes to CHRIS JOHNSON.
IRELAND PLAYER OF THE GAME goes to BRIAN “SPINNER” SPENCE in his first game back from a busted wing.
LATE GAME – #2 ITALY VS #4 SCOTLAND
The late game pitted #2 ITALY against #4 SCOTLAND who look strong with 3 wins in Round 2.
The game was scoreless until Italy’s Dave Vincelli broke the ice with 8 minutes to go in the first period. No more goals until Eric Fletcher bulged the twine with the second period’s only goal to make it 2-0 for Italy after two periods.
Scotland sniper Patty Sharpe got the biscuit past Finnish sensation Tomi Niemenen with 9 minutes to go in the game to make it 2-1. But Scotland’s winning streak ended with another marker by Eric Fletcher to end the game 3-1.
Italy player of the game with two goals was Eric Fletcher.
Scotland player of the game goes to League Boss Francesco Rispoli who kept this one respectable for his Scottish teammates.
Next week features a battle between first and second place teams, IRELAND and ITALY. Late game will feature Portugal’s round 3 debut against the surging SLOVs who look to move into 2nd place.
