Week 16 Recap
Early game to open 2020 between Canada and USA. All Canucks in the 1st taking a 2-0 lead. Second period saw both squads score twice with Canada on top 4-2 after 2. Canada scored early in the 3rd taking a 5-2 lead. Then the mighty Americans turned on the jets and scored 5 unanswered goals to win this one 7-5. A massive comeback. Canada went 0-1 on the PP and USA was 0-0. Canada got a hat trick from Patrick Sharp and singles from Kevin Nicholson and Pat McCormick. USA got all singles from Ron Chantaj, Johnny Fasulo, Joel May, Johnny Ridge, Dan Barrett, Marcelo Diluzio and Steve Atchison. Players of the Game went to Canada’s Patrick Sharp and for USA Ron Chantaj. Great hockey game.
Late game between Sweden and Finland was a nail biter too. Both teams scored twice each after one period. 2nd period saw singles from both squads for a 3-3 tie after 2. Sweden scored early in the 3rd to take the lead and then scored again mid way through the 3rd, up 5-3. Finland gets one back just under a minute to go and a full press as 5 bodies were visiting Brenda. Swedens McCallum shut the door and Sweden wins 5-4. Finland went 1-2 on the PP and Sweden was 0-1. Finland got 2 goals from Ron Cormier and singles from Tim Freeman and Jay Cummings. Rookie Tim Freeman had a 4 point night and his Pops Bruce had 3 assists, impressive. Sweden got 2 goals from Eric Fletcher and singles from Leo Brideau, Mike Rukavina and Joe Peacock. Players of the Game went to Finlands Gordie Ide and for Sweden the big return of their emotional leader Brian Burke.
Next weeks games goes Friday, January 10, 2020 at 9:15 pm Sweden plays Poland. At 10:30 pm Finland skates with USA. Canada get the week off.
