Week 2 Playoff Recap
Easter Monday week 2 of our playoffs games in the books.
Early game saw the debut of our regular season champs Canada facing off against the struggling Swedes. Canada scores 2 unanswered goals in the opening frame. Sweden battles in this one and makes it a 1 goal game with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd. Canada scores late in the 2nd taking a 3-1 lead into the final frame. Tough fought battle up to this point as action at both ends of the pond. But as most of the Swedes season this year no more gas in their tanks in the final frame as Canada pounds them 4-1 in the final frame for a dominant 7-2 victory to open their playoff round robin. Sweden got goals from Patrick Sharp and Paul Tavares. Canada got singles from Tim Martins, Paul Alloway, Enzo Ianno, Ken Coffin, Marcelo Diluzio, Paul Harty and Gary Julius. Canada went 1-2 on the PP and also scored a short handed goal as well. Sweden was 0-1. Player of the Game went to Canada’s goalie Frank Rispoli who truly stood out in the opening 2 periods. For the Swedes their rookie sensation the Pork Chop Paul Tavares.
Mrs. Tavares is looking forward to the horns for the extra week as the Swedes get the week off and knowing that the Swedes single Italian stud miester Steve Ferrin had the horns the previous week. Canada’s ageless wonder Gary Julius with a 4 point night and has taken the lead in playoff scoring race, wtf???????
Late game between the hot hot hot Polocks (that didn’t sound right) and the winless Americans. 2-1 for the Polocks after 1 period. Americans get the lone goal in the 2nd frame as this one is all tied up after 2. Poland jumped back on top mid way through the 3rd. Americans tied it up again at the 7 minute mark. Senkowski and Ide shut her down the rest of the way and this tilt finished all tied up at 3’s. No penalties in this match. Poland got 2 goals from Leo Bride and a single from Brian Burke. USA got single markers from rookie George Letsos, Sal Guerra and Ron Cormier. Players of the Game went to Polands #6 Leo Brideau and to the USA both #11 Moe Connell and #1 Gordie Ide.
So Poland sits atop with 3 pts followed by the Fin’s and Canada with 2, USA with 1 and the lowly Swedes with 0. Did some math and as of today all 5 teams still have a shot at the Gold medal game, even the Swedes so the games continue. NO GAMES this Friday as the figure skaters have their gala night. Next round of gamers is scheduled for Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Port Credit arena. 7:15 pm Canada will do battle with their arch nemesis USA. And at 8:30pm Poland will face off against the rested Fin’s. Sweden get the week off.
See you all on the ice!!
