Week 21 Recap
Boys,
The start of our final round of regular season games took place this past Friday.
Early match between Sweden and Finland. Sweden with a solid opening frame took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd. Sweden jumped in front 3-1 early in the 2nd. Finland closed out the period with a late goal trailing 3-2 after 2. No goals for the first half of the final frame until 7:33 when the Fin’s tied it up at 3’s. A barage of light blue as the Fin’s scored 3 more times winning this one 6-3. Finland went 0-2 on the PP and Sweden was 0-0 but had 2 short handed markers in this match. Sweden got goals from Robin Flumerfelt, Tony Thomas and Paul ‘Pork Chop’ Tavares. Finland got a hat trick from rookie Steve MacDougall, 2 goals from Tim Randa and a single from Rob Messenger. Fill in Murray Barrett for brother Dan got 5 assists in this one and much discussion on who is the better brother. Players of the Game went to Finlands #15 Tim Randa and for the Swedes #4 Tony Thomas.
Is Thomas actually smiling?????
Late game between Canada and the USA. ‘NO COLLUSION’. Americans score the lone goal in the 1st period. USA out score the Canucks 2-1 in the 2nd for a 3-1 lead after 2. And deja vu in the final period as the yankees win this match 5-2 for their first victory in 5 tries vs the mighty Canadians. Penalty free game with no love for Brenda. Canadians got f=goals from Marcello Diluzio and Neil Kelly. USA got 2 goals from league leader Rob McKean and Joe Cosentino and a single from Dwayne Tygesen. Americans may be peaking at the right time. Players of the Game went to Canadian #11 Robin Chantaj and to the American #1 Gordie Ide. Gordie and Sal were found visiting the Swedish room looking for the first aid kit with their teammates wondering how loyal they actually were to their own team.
So outside of Sweden locked into the 5th seed the top 4 seeds will most likely get set after the final game of the regular season as it is that tight. Our Playoff schedule is just about to be confirmed as we are waiting only on one date for final confirmation. Will let the league know as soon as it is confirmed. Lots of earlier times and some day changes as well.
This weeks games on Friday, February 23 are as follows. 9:15 pm USA vs Finland and at 10:30 pm Sweden will do battle with Poland. The Canadians get the week off.
See you all on the ice!
