Week 24 Recap
Ok so one more week to go and just few more things need to be decided.
Last weeks recap. Early match between the Islanders and the Flyers. Both teams working on a small bench. 1-1 after the opening period. Flyers score twice in the 2nd and Islanders once for a Flyer 3-2 lead after 2. Gas tank went to empty early in the 3rd for the Islanders as the Flyers score 4 unanswered goals for a 7-2 final victory. These 2 teams will face off agianst each other for their opening game in the playoff round robin where Islanders will try to exact their revenge. Nicholson and Dupal scoring for the Islanders. Flyers Rob Messenger gets 4 goals in this game, Rundle, Cummings and rookie sensation Diluzio scoring for the Flyers. Diluzio had a 5 point night, not a bad pick up replacing Rob Gollanek. Penalty free game, I love it. Players of the Game went to Islanders #8 Kevin Nicholson and Flyers #9 Rob Messenger.
Late game between the Oilers and the Habs. Habs looking to win their last reg season game to avoid being the worst team in league history. Oilers score the only 2 goals in the first period. Both squads score once in the 2nd for an Oiler 3-1 lead with a period to go. Oilers open up this puppy in the 3rd out scoring the Habs 5-1 in the final period for a convincing 8-2 victory. Habs now officially hold the futile viagra record for lowest points in a 20 game season with 5, ouch. Habs get goals from Maguire and Spence. Oilers get 2 from both Freeman and Cosentino and singles from Connell, Ianno, Kelly and Leenaars. Oilers went 0-2 on the PP and Habs were 0-0. Players of the Game go to Habs #8 Mark Woods and Oilers #27 Enzo Ianno. With the idle Bruins and the Oilers win they move into top spot for the first time this season. With one more Oiler victory this week they will secure the top seed for the playoffs. Bruins can get that spot with a win and an Oiler loss and if both teams finished tied Bruins would get the nod as top seed.
This weeks games on Friday, March 13 (I hope Brenda will not have many visitors) 9:15 Oilers vs Flyers and at 10:30 Boston vs Islanders. Sandbagging Habs are off on dry land training and preparation for their Playoff run. So if Oilers tie or lose both games will be important, if Oilers win the early game Bruins can rest their elite players, should be exciting!
Some individual benchmarks are still up for grabs. The Rocket Richard trophy to the player with most goals is tied with Brideau, Maguire and Cummings with 15 each. Habs Dan Barrett leads all rookie scorers with 29 pts but Peacock and Diluzio are only 2 behind. Bruins Flumerfelt leads teammate Thomas by 6 minutes for the Johnny Sparrow belt for most penalty minutes, mmmm, could be a passing of the torch ceremony after this one.
Boys we have our playoff schedule officially confirmed by the City. You can find it under Events on our web site and also at the bottom of the Team Stats page as well. Note, all Playoff games will be at Port Credit arena but different days and different times, Team Reps please ensure all your guys are clear on that.
