Week 3 Playoff Recap
Well, well, well right when you think you know everything, its turns upside down.
Last weeks games completed our 3rd of 5th round of playoff robin games.
Early game between our record breaking winning 1st seed Finland and our 4th seed depleted lineup of USA. The Americans with only 9 skaters and Finland with a full squad did not look good for the red, white and blue. But hey Donald Trump actually won the election sooooo anything can happen. And so it did. USA up 2-0 after 1. 3 more American goals in the 2nd for a 5-0 lead, wtf????? 2 more goals in the final period made this a 7-0 SHOCK the world win for the Americans. There was also 2 goals scored by the Americans called back and the game was called with 5 minutes to go as Finlands backstop was helped off the ice. USA went 0-1 on the PP and Finland was 0-0. USA goals, 2 from Tim Randa and 2 from Rob McKean and singles from Jim Maguire, Have Mihalic, and Tony Carlisle. Players of the Game went to Finlands Frank Rispoli.
And for the Americans Mark Plewes with a great effort.
Special shout out to USA shut out backstop Art Senkowski.
Late game between a desperate Poland squad and the surging Swedes. Sweden scored the lone goal in the opening frame. Deja vu in the 2nd as Sweden took a 2-0 lead into the final frame in this tightly contested battle. All Swedes in the final frame as they score 3 unanswered goals for a sound 5-0 victory. Poland went 0-3 on the PP and Sweden was 1-2. Sweden got 2 goals from Patty Sharp with a 4 point night, singles from Moe Connell, Ron Cormier, and Mike Rukavina. Players of the Game went to Polands Rich Chalovich.
Thats a sad face on Richard eh???
For Sweden honors went to Patrick Sharp.
Handsome devil!!! Special shout out to Gordie Ide. 2 shut outs in one night I do not think ever happened in our history.
So 2 shocking scores has left this our 30th season up for grabs. Sweden is the only team that has locked a spot in one of the 2 Championship night games. The other 4 teams still are in play but some may need some help. Poland has its backs against the wall and needs to beat Finland in their last game or could be a 2nd seed team shut out Championship night. USA, Finland, Canada and Sweden all still have an opportunity to play for Gold.
This weeks games will go Friday, April 7, 2017 at Port Credit arena. Early game puck drop is at 7:15 pm as the 1 and 1 Fin’s will do battle with the undefeated Swedes in a big game. The late game is scheduled for 8:45 pm with USA and the rested Canadians. Poland gets the week off.
See you all on the ice!
